Buhari Backs Southern Candidate For President

The President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed a power shift to the South in 2023.

He made this known at a dinner with All Progressives Congress presidential aspirants in Abuja.

Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, are said to be among the 13 presidential hopefuls shortlisted by the screening panel of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Imran Muhammad, an APC member privy to the inner workings of the party, made this known on Saturday.

On Friday, the screening panel headed by John Oyegun, a former APC national chairman, presented its report to Abdullahi Adamu, the APC national chairman.

President Buhari is hosting the 23 presidential aspirants on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to a dinner at the state House, Abuja.

The President, who just returned from an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on the political situation in Mali and other parts of the sub-region, meets the aspirants ahead of the APC convention where the party’s presidential candidate for next year’s poll will be elected.

INEC Invalidates 47,633 PVC’s In Ekiti

As Ekiti State prepares for its June 18 governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has detected 47,633 voter double registration on its portal.

The commission averred that such people have had their registration invalidated to prevent double voting during election, with the aid of the Bimodal Voter Authentication System(BVAS) invented by INEC to sanitise its registers.

The INEC’s Head of Department, Information and Communication Technology, Titilayo Oderinde, gave the starling revelation in Ado Ekiti, on Saturday, during a day training workshop organised for Ekiti journalists in preparation for the impending governorship poll.

Jigawa Gov Badaru Withdraws From APC Presidential Primary

Jigawa Governor Badaru has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential race.

He withdrew from the primary slated for Monday following an advisory to President Buhari by 11 APC Governors to cede power to the South in 2023.

The Governors and party leaders made their position known in a communique at the end of a meeting in Abuja.
