The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims that a new national chairman has emerged from a convention purportedly held in Ibadan on November 16, 2025.
The chapter described the alleged event and subsequent expulsions as illegal and void.
In a press statement released on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bob-Manuel Umoru, emphasized that PDP has not conducted any valid National Convention as prescribed by its constitution.
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading press release circulating in the media claiming that a new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged from a purported convention held in Ibadan on November 16, 2025, and that certain members including the Honourable Minister of the FCT, H.E. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike have been issued expulsion certificates.
“For the sake of clarity, legality, and the integrity of our great party, the following must be stated categorically:
“No National Convention Was Held by the PDP. Therefore, no individual can legitimately claim to have emerged as National Chairman or holder of any national office from a convention that did not occur. The alleged convention in Ibadan is a fabrication with no basis in reality or party procedure.”
Edo PDP also pointed to two subsisting High Court judgments that restrain the conduct of any convention pending the resolution of ongoing legal matters.
According to Umoru, “These judgments have not been vacated by any superior court. Any action taken in defiance of these valid court orders, including the supposed handover ceremony and claims of new leadership, is null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.”
Addressing the expulsion certificates issued to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, H.E. Nyesom Wike, and others, Umoru said, “The so-called expulsion certificates represent a deliberate mockery of due process, a childish political drama, and at best a play under the moonlight. You cannot expel party members from a convention that never took place, under a leadership that is not recognized by law, using a process that violates both court orders and the PDP Constitution.”
He further stressed that the PDP is a party built on law, order, and democratic discipline.
He further noted that efforts to rebuild or reposition the party must respect valid court orders, follow constitutional procedures, pursue genuine reconciliation, and uphold truth rather than propaganda or illegitimate power grabs.
Umoru added, “The PDP remains strong and resilient, but it must be protected from individuals attempting to impose illegal leadership structures and unconstitutional sanctions. Those who claim the party ‘will never die’ while violating its core principles are the real threat to its stability.”
He concluded by calling on members of the Edo State Chapter, as well as PDP members across Nigeria and beyond, to disregard the misinformation.
“No PDP National Convention has been held. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, is not the National Chairman of the PDP. The purported expulsions are illegal, void, and unenforceable. The valid High Court orders remain in effect,” he said.
“We call on all genuine members of the Edo State Chapter of our great party, members across the Nation, and and all over the world, wherever this will get to, kindly disregard this misinformation and remain steadfast in defending the Constitution and integrity of our great party,” the statement added.
