The Nigeria Union Of Pensioners, Ogun State Council, on Monday denounced a demonstration against the state government by a group of retirees.
The union condemned the action in a rejoinder signed by its Chairman, Waheed Oloyede, Secretary, Bola Lawal, and sent to the state government, through the Head of Service, with a copy made available to DAILY POST.
According to them, Governor Dapo Abiodun had approved the payment of palliatives to the recent Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS, Retirees, and all who retired from July 2nd 2025 had received the palliatives accordingly.
The union appreciated the governor for his “commitments towards the welfare and progressive measures at alleviating the pains of the senior citizens”.
The letter titled ‘Planned Protest of CPS Pensioners: Rejoinder By NUP Ogun State Council’, read: “We hereby write to condemn the planned protest in the strongest term by a group of Pensioners who today 8th December 2025, are staging a protest against the Government.
“It is on record that the Ogun State Government led by His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun, CON, has graciously approved the payment of palliatives to the recent Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) Retirees. All those that retired from July 2nd 2025 have received the palliatives accordingly.
“Further to the above stated, we have been rightly informed of your kind consideration of the Retirees of our Tertiary Institutions who have earlier pulled out of service voluntarily, but met with the 35years in service/mandatory age 60 years, that fall within the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). These have been captured on the Defined Benefit Scheme and have been paid accordingly.
“In addition, it is assured that lump sums are being prepared for the (CPS) Retirees, these are to be disbursed to the beneficiaries very soon.
“Besides, humongously owed Gratuities are being paid on an annual basis to the Befined Benefit Scheme (DBS) beneficiaries. Payments have covered up to 2017/2018 Local Government beneficiaries and 2019 State beneficiaries accordingly.”
The union expressed hope that the 2025 fourth quarter gratuities would be released soon and begged the governor to consider and approve of the long awaited consequential adjustments of pensions of long standing pensioners.
“We shall continue to collaborate with your administration with a view to further enhance greater progressive developments in Ogun State and also to ensure that Pensioners live with dignity and peace of mind in Ogun State,” the rejoinder added.
