Motorists stranded as Ota-Idiroko road construction halts traffic at Goro

Motorists have reported severe difficulties navigating the Ota-Idiroko Road, following ongoing construction that has rendered a section at Goro, Atan-Ota, impassable.

The affected stretch, part of an international route linking towns in the area and facilitating travel to and from Benin Republic, left drivers stranded over the weekend.

Heavy trucks attempting to bypass the damaged portion either became stuck in the mud or toppled, requiring the intervention of Hiab trucks to remove them.

Commuters attributed the chaos to substandard workmanship by the contractor handling the project.

According to one motorist, “The gutters constructed on both sides of the road are too narrow to channel water effectively, causing backflow that has destroyed the roadway.

“Minor remedial work while construction is ongoing could have made the road passable, but the contractor appears indifferent to the safety and convenience of road users.”

The situation has sparked growing frustration among road users, who are urging authorities to monitor the project more closely and ensure that construction does not completely disrupt traffic on this critical highway.
