Members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria staged a protest at the bank of River Buruku in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday over the alleged theft of two boat engines belonging to their members.
The demonstration, which began on Sunday morning, brought social and business activities around the ever-busy River Buruku bank and the town to a standstill.
During the protest, maritime workers blocked all the crossing points at River Buruku, completely grounding all ferry and canoe operations.
According to the aggrieved operators, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred at the bank of River Buruku.
They are demanding urgent action from Governor Hyacinth Alia, insisting that their stolen boats be recovered and security restored at the riverbank.
The maritime workers vowed that no crossing activities would resume until their engines are found.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached to confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.
