However, in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, Lere Olayinka, the senior special adviser on media to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike made a remarkable comment regarding the manner in which a sinner obtains clemency.
According to his statements which had garnered widespread traction across various social media platforms and had generated mixed reactions, he pointed out that a sinner must first admit his wrongdoings.
He equally pointed out that he should also show remorse for his actions before asking for forgiveness. His comments were however, disputed by many as they believed it contained a cryptic message.
While many commended the act of mercy shown by the president, others believed the recipients were undeserving of the kind gesture given the magnitude of the offences committed, unlike Nnamdi Kanu whom many believed deserved unconditional pardon.
“For God to forgive a sinner, such a sinner must first admit his or her sins, show remorse, and ask for forgiveness.” Lere Olayinka wrote.
