Kumuyi Warns Against Subtle Encouragement of Divorce: ‘If You Want to Leave Your Husband, You Know What to Do

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has issued a strong warning to Christians against embracing preachers who avoid correction and promote messages that contradict biblical truth. The cleric cautioned that such teachings may appear comforting but ultimately prepare people for destruction rather than eternal life.

Delivering a sermon to his congregation, Kumuyi lamented that many believers now prefer ministers who never rebuke sin or call out wrongdoing. “Follow the truth for their good, and you are preparing them for hell,” he said. “And then people say, I prefer him, I prefer her. She never corrects anybody. She never says that he’s wrong.”

He illustrated this trend by pointing to attitudes toward marriage and divorce. “If you want to, you know, divorce your husband, she said, ‘Well, you are the best person to know. You are not feeling all right in that place. You want to divorce. Well, I’m not telling you to divorce, but you know, take care of yourself and whatever you do, you know, God understands what you are going through.’ Why don’t you tell her the real Word of God?” Kumuyi asked.

The preacher firmly rejected such counsel, describing it as ungodly. “That’s what they prefer him, they prefer her. That’s false doctrine. That’s evil. That’s carnality,” he declared.

Turning to Scripture for emphasis, Kumuyi read from the Apostle Paul’s appeal in the New Testament. “And then we’re told in chapter 1 of 1 Corinthians, I’m reading from verse 10. 1 Corinthians chapter 1 verse 10. Now I beseech you, brethren,” he said, highlighting Paul’s call for unity and sound doctrine in the early church.

Kumuyi stressed that the Christian faith requires courage to proclaim the whole truth, even when it challenges cultural trends or personal desires. According to him, the responsibility of a true pastor is not to please the people but to lead them in righteousness. “Why don’t you tell her the real Word of God?” he repeated, urging leaders not to shy away from delivering hard truths.

Members of the congregation responded with sober reflection, noting that the message drew attention to the dangers of selective preaching. A church worker said, “Pastor made it clear that avoiding correction is not love; it’s compromise. The truth is what sets us free.”

Religious commentators observed that Kumuyi’s words align with his long-standing reputation for preaching holiness and uncompromising devotion to the Bible. In a religious landscape where some leaders adopt softer tones to attract large audiences, his insistence on correction and truth reflects his conservative theological stance.

Since founding the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in the 1970s, Kumuyi has consistently taught that false doctrine weakens believers and threatens their eternal destiny. His latest sermon reaffirmed this conviction, warning against messages that comfort sin while ignoring repentance.

By urging Christians to “follow the truth for their good,” Kumuyi positioned his message as both a rebuke and a call to realign with biblical standards. His reminder from 1 Corinthians underscored the necessity of unity in truth, not in compromise.
