Security operatives in Kebbi State have repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Malan Yaro village, Dandi Local Government Area, killing one of the assailants and recovering two motorcycles.
The incident occurred at about 5:26 a.m. on November 25, 2025, when the armed gang invaded the community.
In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, said the Divisional Police Officer in Kamba led a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes to confront the attackers.
The team engaged the bandits in a gun duel that lasted several hours, forcing the criminals to flee.
“One of the bandits was neutralised, while others escaped into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds. Two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing suspects were recovered,” the statement said.
The body of the suspect has been deposited at the General Hospital, Kamba, for autopsy.
To prevent reprisals and stabilise the area, additional police operatives, soldiers, and vigilante groups have been deployed for sustained clearance operations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO and all collaborating security units for their “gallant performance and professionalism,” urging them to maintain the momentum in the fight against criminal elements.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Birnin Kebbi, for further investigation to uncover the gang’s operations and avert future attacks.
