The Kebbi State House of Assembly on Thursday approved the state’s 2026 appropriation bill of N642.9 billion, as presented by Governor Nasir Idris on November 27.
The approval followed the presentation of a report by the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation and Budget Monitoring, Economic Planning and Due Process.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the committee, Adamu Muhammad (APC, Ngaski), said the lawmakers retained the budget figures submitted by the governor.
He explained that the bill was referred to the committee after the second reading, and members worked “tirelessly within limited time” to scrutinise the proposal alongside Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Muhammad noted that the committee’s observations did not alter the total budget size or its recurrent and capital components.
According to him, recurrent expenditure remains N163.57 billion, representing 25 per cent, while capital expenditure stands at N479.36 billion, representing 75 per cent of the total budget.
He reaffirmed the total figure of N642.93 billion and urged members to adopt the report to enable further legislative action and eventual transmission to the governor for assent.
The motion for the third reading was moved by Salisu Maikasuwa (APC, Sakaba) and seconded by Muhammad Garba-Bena (APC, Danko-Wasagu).
Speaker Muhammad Usman-Zuru put the motion to a voice vote, and the House unanimously approved the budget. He commended the committee for what he described as a thorough job.
