Jigawa govt orders political appointees, LG chairmen to lead back-to-school campaign

The Jigawa State Government has directed all senior political appointees, as well as all local government chairmen, to key into the state’s Back-to-School campaign as part of efforts to address the out-of-school syndrome in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Sagir Ahmed Musa, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Dutse.

He said the state government has set up committees to ensure proper coordination, supervision, and statewide implementation of the programme.

According to the state, “The initiative is a follow-up to a presentation by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Haruna Musa, to the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Dutse.”

Hon. Sagir said the Council constituted two committees for effective implementation of the directive, including a Steering Committee headed by the Commissioner for Basic Education, while the SUBEB boss heads the Technical Committee.

He said the Governor also directed all senior political appointees, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff (CoS), Commissioners, Special Advisers, Technical Advisers, Director-Generals, and Executive Secretaries, to facilitate the return of at least 100 out-of-school children each in their respective communities.

The directive also ordered all Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) to ensure the return of a minimum of 50 children to school.

“Similarly, all the 27 Local Government Chairmen must personally ensure that not fewer than 1,000 children in their LGAs return to school before the commencement of the 2026 second academic term.”

The Governor remarked that the directive was central to the administration’s drive to reduce the number of out-of-school children, improve access to quality basic education, and strengthen human capital development.

He urged all government officials, community leaders, parents, and stakeholders to support the initiative to ensure that every child in Jigawa State has the opportunity to learn and thrive.
