‘It’s shameless’ – Dino Melaye fumes over nomination of ex-INEC chair Yakubu as ambassador

Former federal lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the nomination of the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, for an ambassadorial position.

DAILY POST reports that Yakubu was among over 30 ambassadorial nominees recently forwarded to the Senate by President Tinubu.

The nomination has attracted criticism, with some stakeholders accusing the president of “rewarding” the former INEC boss.

In a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Dino Melaye accused Tinubu of prioritising politics over governance.

The former lawmaker described Yakubu’s nomination as shameless, asserting that the move reflects Tinubu’s disregard for the nation.

He wrote: “It is an absurdity that President Tinubu has abandoned governance for politics. The appointment of Mahmud Yakubu as an ambassador is shameless and shows that this Idi Amin-like government doesn’t give a damn. Indeed, there was a country.”
