The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 58-year-old woman, Besirat Tijjani from Oyo State, and a 45-year-old man, Habibu Idris from Jigawa State, for allegedly trafficking three underage girls.
Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday.
He said the pair were caught after they started arguing in public over money meant for the girls.
According to him, investigations showed that Idris had been moving young girls from Jigawa State for N10,000 each, but this time demanded N15,000 per girl, which Besirat allegedly refused to pay.
Their argument drew attention at the Fagge Motor Park, leading people nearby to alert Hisbah officers.
Hisbah operatives rescued three girls: 14-year-old Rashida Hussaini, another 14-year-old named Kuburiyya, and 17-year-old Rukayya Umar, all from Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Aminudeen said both suspects have now been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He condemned the act and urged parents to stop sending their children away in search of opportunities, warning that “such decisions often expose them to exploitation and human trafficking networks.”
