
Cases of a flesh-eating skin disease, suspected to be Buruli ulcer, have been reported in Adamawa State, Nigeria.
Reports indicate that about 23 patients, including six women and two children, are currently receiving medical care at the Yola Specialist Hospital.
Adamawa State Epidemiologist, Stephen Kadabiu Jones, confirmed the development to SaharaReporters on Thursday.
He said, “Yes, we brought them on Tuesday”, describing the situation as “deeply concerning,”.
He added that the ministry had mobilised rapid response teams to contain the spread and provide urgent medical intervention.”
“We are monitoring the situation closely and ensuring that all affected persons receive the necessary care”, he said.
This is coming barely a month after such an outbreak was recorded in the Malabu District of the Fufore Local Government Area of the state.
The epidemiologist revealed that the fresh cases were recorded in the same community where the previous cases were recorded.
