The federal government Monday said Nigerians are already witnessing positive results from reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Acknowledging the difficulties that come with the reforms, the government described them as necessary steps aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring investor confidence, and laying a foundation for long-term growth.
“Inflationary pressures are beginning to ease, foreign investment inflows are showing renewed interest, job creation initiatives are expanding opportunities for our youth and social intervention programmes are being strengthened to cushion the effects of reforms on vulnerable groups.
“These gains, though modest, are a testimony that the Renewed Hope Agenda is on course, and with perseverance, greater dividends will be realized,” it said,

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stated this at a World Press Conference, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65thIndependence anniversary, in Abuja.
While describing this this year’s theme, “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” as apt, he said the visionary leadership of President Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, had become the guiding framework for transforming Nigeria.
“It is an agenda that speaks to national rebirth, inclusivity, and sustainable progress thereby providing hope for our people, especially the youth who represent the future of this nation,” the SGF said.
Speaking further on the theme, he said: “It reminds us that the responsibility of building a greater Nigeria is not the task of government alone, but a responsibility for every citizen comprising the youth and elder, men and women, public servants and private entrepreneurs, farmers and professionals, teachers, military and para-military, traders and artisans as well as those at home and in the diaspora. All hands must indeed be on deck for us to realize the Nigeria we envision, which is a nation united in purpose, rich in diversity, and resolute in progress.”
The SGF said other activities listed other activities lined up for the anniversary celebrations to include “the Grand Finale of the National Campus Debate, showcasing the brilliance, creativity, and patriotism of students across the nation scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday, 30th September 2025 and the Presidential Broadcast in the morning on Wednesday, 1st October 2025.”
Idris
In his remarks, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris lauded Tinubu for “dismantling stubborn cogs in the wheel of our national progress.”
“As we mark this 65th year since our Independence from Great Britain, we are all witnesses to the remarkable reforms taking shape at a pace never before seen. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing the needful; a committed, courageous and visionary leader dismantling stubborn cogs in the wheel of our national progress.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and its Eight (8) Priority Areas, President Tinubu is laying the building blocks for a national renewal anchored on prosperity, peace and unity. At this point in time, our collective participation in nation building is critical to the sustenance of the progress being made,” he said.
…The administration’s achievements
Highlighting some of the achievements of the current administration, he said, “Nigeria’s trade surplus is growing with an increasing share of contributions from the non-oil sector.”
“Declining inflation, a strengthening currency, falling food prices, growing external reserves—all of these are more eloquent testament that we are on the right track,” the minister added.
Idris disclosed that from January 2026, “Nigeria will commence implementation of the Tax Acts quartet, which will expand the nation’s revenue base while simultaneously simplifying tax collection and lessening the burden on our people.”
He said: “These new tax laws represent a huge leap forward for the Nigerian economy and for business, entrepreneurship and investment.
“With more revenue at its disposal, on account of the reforms, the Tinubu administration is investing heavily in the key components that will catalyse our collective growth and development: health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, energy security, regional and grassroots development, small business, youth, and national security.”
According to the minister, “more than 500,000 students of tertiary institutions – universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, are already benefiting from the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), in which tuition and upkeep fees are paid for by the Federal Government.”
He said under President Tinubu, “our nation is gradually recapturing the spirit of people-centered, grassroots development, through the establishment of five new regional development commissions and a supervising federal ministry for regional development.
“We are in the middle of a road and transport infrastructure revolution, of which the flagship initiative is the one comprising the Presidential legacy highways, designed to connect Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, enhance national integration and unlock new economic corridors.
“These landmark road projects are the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway; the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway; the 477-kilometre Trans-Saharan Highway traversing Calabar, Ebonyi, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT; and the 422-kilometer Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Expressway.
“Complementing these are the high-impact rail projects: the Kano-Kaduna standard gauge rail, and the renewed push for the rehabilitation of the Eastern Corridor of the rail line from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.”
…Energy sector
In the energy sector, he said the administration had revived the 255MW Kaduna Power Plant and it is determined to bring it completion.
“The Presidential Power Initiative (aka Siemens power project) is on course, as is the Presidential Metering Initiative, a vital collaboration between the Federal and subnational governments, which will deliver 7 million smart meters to close the country’s metering gap by 2027.
“Currently, Nigeria is home to the implementation of one of the world’s largest distributed renewable energy projects—the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project, a $750 million World Bank supported program that will deliver clean and off-grid electricity to more than 17.5 million Nigerians,” he said.
…Health sector
The minister said the federal government, through the Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, commissioned three advanced and world class oncology centres as part of a broader push to expand health infrastructure in the country.
He said the commissioned cancer centres are located at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, (FTHK), and the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH).
“Another three new centres are nearing completion at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Lagos University Teaching Hospital. (LUTH), and the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, (ABUTH),” he added.
Idris said contrary to the perception being pushed in some quarters, the current administration “has demonstrated uncommon commitment to balanced and inclusive development since assuming office.
“The distribution of capital projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is equitable. No region is taking a back seat.”
…NSCDC deploys 4, 500 in Abuja
Meanwhile, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of 4, 500 personnel across the nooks and crannies of the FCT ahead of this year’s Independence Day celebration.
The deployment, it said, is to ensure security of lives and property as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT and its environs before, during and after the celebration.
A statement released Monday by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi, said the deployment of officers and men cuts across specialised departments and units such as Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE).
The statement said: “There is also massive deployment to vulnerable locations and soft targets such as Shopping Malls, Recreational Centres, prayer grounds, Markets, Motor Parks, Amusement parks, City Gate, 3 Arms Zone, government buildings and areas housing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
“In a bid to ensure proactiveness and prevent emergency or unforeseen circumstances, men of our undercover unit have already been deployed for covert operations and surveillance.
“Black spots like uncompleted buildings that harbour criminals are also covered to avert security breaches.”
The statement further quoted Odumosu as giving marching orders to all area commanders and divisional officers to be on top of their games and ensure their presence is felt to avoid security hitches.
“All hands must be on deck, I will not tolerate any form of breeches, ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” he said.
The NSCDC boss further “charges all officers to be of good conduct and work in synergy with other security agencies and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement, avoid harassment and intimidation of any citizen as well as accidental discharge.”
He assured residents of FCT of a safe celebration by ensuring a secured environment before, during and after the celebration.
Commandant Odumosu urged residents of the FCT to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements, individual or group to the nearby security agency, adding that “my personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration; you have a part to play too by being proactive.” Please Help Us Follow Breaking News Channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaFWJYN2P59d2FwUA21J
