The Edo State Police Command has warned parents, shop owners and citizens that the use of fireworks constitutes a nuisance and is prohibited under relevant laws.
DAILY POST reports that the Command also warned that anybody found selling, purchasing or using fireworks would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu gave the warning in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Benin City.
Yamu who said the Command has observed with concern the increasing use of fireworks in various parts of the state.
The police spokesman noted that the loud and sudden explosions from the items are capable of creating unnecessary panic, causing fear in the minds of the public, and potentially leading to false security alerts or avoidable emergencies.
He advised parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to desist from buying and using fireworks, while shop owners were cautioned against stocking or selling the prohibited items.
The image maker noted that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents throughout the festive season and beyond.
In the same vein, he encouraged members of the public to report any person or group engaging in the sale or use of fireworks within their neighbourhoods.
