According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, June 19, 2026, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has stated that the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) never assured Nigerians of immediate or miraculous improvements upon assuming office.
He explained that the current government under President Bola Tinubu is instead pursuing gradual, structured, and carefully planned reforms aimed at achieving long-term national development.
According to him, the focus of governance is anchored on deliberate progress rather than quick and unrealistic outcomes.
Akpabio made this position known on Friday during the official inauguration of a newly completed seven-kilometre road and bridge project in the Federal Capital Territory.
The infrastructure project is part of ongoing federal efforts to expand road networks and improve transportation within the capital.
He used the occasion to highlight the administration’s continued investment in capital projects designed to enhance mobility, strengthen connectivity, and support economic activities across the territory.
He further explained that the APC-led government did not base its campaign or governance promise on instant transformation.
Instead, he said the administration committed itself to a steady process of measurable development that would unfold over time.
According to him, governance under the present leadership is structured in a way that prioritizes planning, execution, and continuity, even when the results are not immediately visible to the public.
The Senate President also linked the government’s approach to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as a framework built on systematic planning and implementation.
He noted that the agenda emphasizes carefully designed policies and projects intended to produce durable outcomes rather than short-lived solutions.
He added that such a development path requires patience, consistency, and sustained focus to build strong national institutions and infrastructure that can serve future generations.
He acknowledged the prevailing economic concerns affecting citizens, particularly the rising cost of living across the country.
These challenges, he noted, have been largely associated with the removal of fuel subsidy and the introduction of other fiscal and economic reforms.
The resulting adjustments have contributed to higher transportation costs and increased prices of goods and services, which have continued to affect households and businesses nationwide.
Despite these difficulties, Akpabio maintained that the administration remains committed to its long-term development strategy.
He explained that ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects reflect a broader vision aimed at addressing deep-rooted structural issues in the economy.
He added that the focus remains on sustainable solutions that will strengthen the country’s economic base over time rather than temporary measures that offer only short-term relief.
He said: “When we came into office, we did not promise you miracles that would appear from thin air. We promised structural, calculated and deliberate progress.”
