According to Arise TV on June 11, 2026, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Emma Ogidi, commented on the changing political stance of Nyesom Wike, highlighting what he sees as a significant shift in loyalty and political principles. His remarks focused on Wike’s current cooperation with the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, despite his previous criticism of the ruling party, a development that has generated fresh discussions within the PDP and the wider political space.
Ogidi expressed concern over what he described as a departure from Wike’s earlier position as a vocal opponent of the APC during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State. He argued that Wike’s present relationship with the ruling party contrasts sharply with the strong views he once held against it. Reflecting on this change, Ogidi stated, “This is not the Wike we used to know. He was the one who swore that he will never be in APC. He swore that APC is cancerous. But look at him working for APC.”
According to Ogidi, such a dramatic political realignment raises important questions about consistency and ideological commitment among Nigerian politicians. He suggested that the contrast between Wike’s past statements and his current actions has become a subject of public scrutiny and debate.
Despite criticizing Wike’s political direction, Ogidi maintained confidence in the PDP’s strength and future prospects. He emphasized that the opposition party remains focused on its long-term goals and is actively preparing for upcoming electoral contests. He stressed the importance of unity, determination, and strategic planning as the party works to regain political momentum.
Speaking on the PDP’s efforts, Ogidi said, “PDP, we are doing our best. We had Jonathan as our joker but unfortunately maybe we spoke too early. APC have been running wild to discourage our candidate. They won’t succeed.”
He concluded by expressing optimism about the party’s ability to overcome both internal challenges and external pressures. According to him, the PDP remains committed to pursuing its objectives and is determined not to allow setbacks or political opposition to hinder its ambitions as it prepares for future elections.
