Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has responded to criticism that followed his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that he remains committed to expressing his views on national issues despite opposition from some quarters.

Reacting to comments surrounding his resignation from the party, Lawal said the attacks directed at him were largely driven by individuals who disagree with his position on certain political matters. He maintained that he would not be intimidated or pressured into silence because of differing opinions.

The former SGF argued that some of his critics are uncomfortable with his attempts to expose what he described as an agenda he believes is not being openly discussed. He suggested that the hostility towards him stems from his willingness to challenge narratives he considers harmful to the country’s interests.

Lawal further stated that many of his remarks have been deliberately misrepresented by opponents seeking to discredit him. According to him, his interventions in political debates are motivated by deeply held convictions and a desire to encourage honest conversations about issues affecting Nigeria.

He stressed that democracy thrives when citizens and political actors are free to voice their opinions without fear of harassment or suppression. For that reason, he said he would continue participating in public discourse and raising concerns whenever he deems it necessary.

Lawal added that constructive debate and the exchange of diverse viewpoints remain vital to addressing the nation’s challenges. He maintained that criticism would not deter him from contributing to discussions he believes are important for Nigeria’s development and democratic progress.
