Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has congratulated Abdulrahman Ahmad, the son of prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, on his graduation from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Sani extended his goodwill message in a post shared on his verified Twitter account, describing the feat as a significant milestone and wishing the young officer success in his career serving Nigeria.
“Sheikh Gumi’s son, Abdulrahman Ahmad, graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy; congratulations and wishing him all the best in the service to our country,” Sani tweeted.
Abdulrahman’s graduation from the NDA is seen as a major achievement, especially given his father’s public prominence and influence. Sheikh Gumi, a well-known Islamic scholar and security commentator, has often been at the center of national conversations about insecurity, dialogue with bandits, and the search for lasting peace in Northern Nigeria.

The NDA, based in Kaduna, is Nigeria’s premier military training institution, producing officers for the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force. Admission into the Academy is highly competitive, and graduation signals readiness to join the officer corps of the Armed Forces.
Sani’s congratulatory message has attracted wide reactions on social media, with many users commending Abdulrahman for choosing a path of national service at a time the country faces complex security challenges. Others noted that his entry into the military may symbolize a commitment to tackling the very issues his father has often spoken about.
The former lawmaker urged the young officer to uphold discipline, professionalism and patriotism as he begins his career. He added that the Nigerian Armed Forces need dedicated young officers like Abdulrahman to strengthen national unity and security.
