Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has rejected viral social media claims alleging that former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulazeez Yari, was involved in a supposed multi-billion-dollar gold smuggling operation intercepted in Kano.

In a post shared on his official X account on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Sani said he had watched several of the trending videos making the allegations but found them unconvincing and poorly constructed. He argued that the creators appeared to be trying to link Yari to the incident without providing any credible evidence or coherent explanation.

Sani further described the videos as a “fabricated” and “childish” attempt to mislead the public, also mocking their production quality. He suggested that anyone attempting to make such serious allegations should have done a more professional job if they expected to be taken seriously.

He also implied that the circulation of the clips may be politically driven, possibly linked to recent comments made by Yari rather than any genuine investigative finding.

While Sani did not name those behind the videos, his remarks effectively served as a defence of the former governor amid growing online attention around the claims.
