Former Bayelsa State governor and National Democratic Congress leader, Seriake Dickson, has revealed details about past political discussions involving Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and activist Aisha Yesufu ahead of the 2023 general elections.
According to Dickson, he and Obi jointly offered Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket as part of efforts to bring respected civil society voices into active politics and strengthen opposition representation in the National Assembly. He explained that the strategy aimed to attract influential reform advocates into governance in order to improve the credibility and effectiveness of the opposition movement.
Dickson, however, claimed that the plan failed because Yesufu rejected the House of Representatives offer. He alleged that the activist believed she was too prominent for the lower legislative chamber and instead preferred to contest for a Senate seat. According to him, her position disrupted the possibility of her participating under their political arrangement during the election period.
As reported by The Sun Nigeria on Friday, June 12, 2026, he said “Peter Obi and I offered Aisha Yesufu a House of Reps ticket. She was feeling too big and turned it down, insisting on the Senate.”
