A Yoruba socio-cultural group, the Oduduwa Integrity Association (OIA), has declared its readiness to stage public demonstrations across the Southwest against human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, following what it described as his persistent verbal assaults on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At the group’s recent meeting held in Ondo State, members expressed outrage at Sowore’s choice of words in describing the Nigerian President and other political leaders. The OIA accused Sowore of crossing cultural and moral boundaries, warning that his actions were tantamount to an attack on Yoruba heritage itself.
In their resolution, the association employed strong ancestral symbolism, declaring that Sowore should be “stripped naked proverbially” for dishonoring the Yoruba race and be made to “dance in the market square before Oduduwa, our forefathers.” The imagery, they explained, was not literal but a cultural metaphor for public disgrace to serve as a deterrent to others who would attempt to malign Yoruba leaders.
Quoting from the Bible, members reminded Sowore of the scriptural injunction: *“Honor your father and your mother”*, arguing that such respect should extend to elders, leaders, and cultural symbols. “Sowore is acting outside the ethos of Yoruba values,” one member stated. “You cannot desecrate the person of President Tinubu, a son of Oduduwa, by constantly calling him a criminal. To do so is to strip our collective dignity.”

The association further argued that Sowore’s repeated criticisms of Tinubu, including references to corruption and mismanagement, were not grounded in constructive engagement but in deliberate provocation. “He has become fond of tearing down leaders without offering alternatives. Who is Sowore to keep calling leaders thieves? This behavior is unbecoming of a Yoruba son,” the group asserted.
Vowing to escalate their resistance, the OIA announced that they would organize a series of demonstrations across the Southwest, mobilizing communities to register their disapproval of Sowore’s conduct. They insisted that these protests would not only serve as a message to Sowore but also as a symbolic act of reporting him “to the origin of the Yoruba people” – a reference to Oduduwa, the revered progenitor of the Yoruba nation.
The group’s spokesperson emphasized: “We are defenders of Yoruba integrity. We will not sit idle while one man attempts to drag the name of our heritage into ridicule. Sowore should be prepared, because wherever he goes in Yorubaland, the people will rise to remind him that Oduduwa cannot be insulted without consequence.”
It is imperative that all Yoruba must get ready to retrieve our dignity thrown away from Omoyele Sowore. He has no good intentions, he should be interrogation and kept in his place. Omoleye Sowore, you are sending your blessings and dignity to the dog.
Raising another verbal assault on Minister Wike, going as far as also calling him a thief is his own logic motive to remove the cloth covering President Bola Tinubu. He has to rethink and retrieve from all his wrong.
The Oduduwa Integrity Association’s threat marks the latest tension point between Sowore and establishment figures, but this time with cultural overtones. The association insists its stance is not merely political but rooted in defending the dignity of the Yoruba identity.
As Nigerians watch the unfolding drama, the question remains whether Sowore will respond to the warnings or dismiss them as yet another attempt to silence his activism. For the OIA, however, the matter is far from closed; they are determined to use every cultural and communal platform available to “reclaim Yoruba integrity” from what they see as Sowore’s persistent insults.
