Lawal made the remarks during an interview, where he explained that his assessment was based on Obi’s leadership ability and what he described as the former Anambra State governor’s reputation for fairness.Watch video here
According to him, these qualities have placed Obi ahead of other politicians expected to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The former SGF maintained that Obi possesses attributes that distinguish him from other potential candidates and insisted that those characteristics have strengthened his standing in the race for the presidency.
He said these factors make Obi the strongest contender as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next general election.
Lawal also predicted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would not emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
He expressed the view that the political landscape currently favours Obi, whom he believes enjoys greater prospects than other aspirants expected to seek the presidency.
Speaking further during the interview, Lawal turned his attention to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
He acknowledged Amaechi’s abilities and described him as a competent individual with positive personal qualities despite disagreeing with some of his political decisions.
According to the former SGF, Amaechi’s greatest challenge is what he considers excessive personal ambition.
Lawal argued that this ambition influenced some of the former minister’s political choices, although he stressed that he harbours no personal resentment toward him and continues to hold a favourable opinion of his character.
“It is just unfortunate that because of his maybe personal excessive ambition, he decided to pair with the devil. But I have nothing against him. Overall, my assessment of him as a human being, as a person, is positive,” Lawal said.
