Ayuba Liyatu has stated that her husband, a military officer, was killed by Boko Haram in Borno State in 2010 after he and his troops were ambushed during an operation
According to a report by The Cable on Saturday, June 13, 2026, Liyatu said that shortly before her husband was killed, he called her and told her that he was under attack by Boko Haram and might not survive it. She said, “Ayuba was killed in Borno state by Boko Haram. He told me that he would not make it out alive”
Liyatu said her husband’s voice was trembling as he spoke to her. She stated that he begged her not to abandon their children after his death, and to continue caring for them even if she remarried later
Liyatu added that she was forced to leave her home in Maiduguri due to Boko Haram attacks. She said she moved into an IDP camp in Durumi, Hawul LGA of Borno
