A founding member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna state, Salihu Lukman, has raised the alarm over what he described as a growing internal crisis threatening the stability of the party.
In a statement circulated on Wednesday to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day, Lukman said instead of consolidating as a viable opposition, the ADC was being undermined by “the madness of controlling structures of ADC.”
“Unfortunately, instead of working to build the party, we are setting ourselves to produce a party whose business will be limited to presenting candidates for elections,” he said.
He alleged that some politicians eyeing the 2027 general elections had become “restless” and were seeking to dominate the party “to the exclusion of their opponents.”

Lukman specifically appealed to opposition leaders, including former governor Nasir El-Rufai, Malam Jaafaru Sani, and Alhaji Bashir Saidu, to discourage what he called the desperate scramble for the party’s structures.
“The fact that we have Sen. Musa Bello aggressively seeking to control structures of ADC in Zone 2 is a reflection of my failure,” he admitted, adding that his closeness to Bello had strained his relationship with Senator Lawal Adamu.
Lukman, who insisted he had no personal electoral ambition, warned that continued infighting would only benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Anybody who is not ready to work as part of a united opposition in Kaduna State is consciously or unconsciously working for APC,” he said.
He stressed that the objective should be to produce a government controlled by the ADC “based on collective leadership,” noting that the era of “emperors as governors” must end.
