A legal analyst, Onyedikachi Ifedi Esq., has faulted recent reports labelling the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s push for Nnamdi Kanu’s acquittal as “theatrical,” insisting that the real “political theatre” is in Abuja.
In a statement on Sunday, Ifedi accused government-backed media of spreading propaganda to discredit IPOB while ignoring glaring legal contradictions in the case against its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Citing multiple court rulings, both domestic and international, Ifedi argued that:
APC Declared Terrorist Abroad
– He referenced a recent Canadian Superior Court judgment which declared Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as terrorist organizations, describing it as a binding foreign judgment under international law.
Illegal Rendition of Kanu
– The lawyer noted that Kanu’s 2021 abduction from Kenya violated Nigerian and international law. He recalled the Court of Appeal judgment inFRN v. Kanuwhich nullified the proceedings due to extraordinary rendition, stressing that the Supreme Court’s later reversal amounted to judicial theatre.

– Ifedi stated that the charges against Kanu were filed under the repealed Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013, which was replaced by the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022. He insisted that prosecuting under a repealed law was “theatre of the absurd.”
No Proof of Offence
– The lawyer argued that there was no evidence of violence or weapons tied to Kanu, only speeches and broadcasts which are constitutionally protected under Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution.
Discharge Equals Acquittal
– He maintained that any appellate court discharge in Kanu’s case amounts to an acquittal, citing precedents that bar retrial on a void charge to avoid double jeopardy.
Ifedi concluded that IPOB’s demands are rooted in constitutional justice, not theatrics, stressing that “the real theatre is in Abuja’s kangaroo courts and propaganda outlets, not in IPOB’s agitation.”
He further reminded the public that while APC has been branded a terrorist organization by a foreign court, IPOB’s only demand remains the right to self-determination.
