According to the Anadolu agency, as tensions between Iran and Israel spill beyond their borders, Lebanon has once again found itself drawn into the wider regional confrontation.
Hezbollah said Tuesday that Iran’s recent missile strikes on Israel were intended, in part, to reinforce pressure on Israel to comply with the ceasefire agreement that ended months of fighting along the Lebanese-Israeli frontier.
In its first public response to the latest exchange of attacks between Iran and Israel, triggered after Israeli strikes on Beirut, the Lebanese group described Tehran’s actions as support for Lebanon at a sensitive moment.
“The Iranian response represented a message of moral, political and field commitment toward Lebanon,” Hezbollah said in a statement.
The remarks underscore how closely Lebanon’s security remains tied to broader regional dynamics. While the ceasefire has reduced large-scale fighting, key issues remain unresolved, including Israeli military presence in parts of Lebanese territory, the return of displaced residents, and reconstruction efforts in communities damaged by the conflict.
Hezbollah argued that Iran’s actions were coordinated with broader regional efforts to challenge Israel. The group said the strikes coincided with support from Yemen’s Houthi movement as part of attempts to “deter Israel.”
“Iran’s support confirms Tehran’s standing alongside Lebanon,” Hezbollah said.
The statement also contained a rare domestic political message, criticizing what it described as certain official Lebanese positions toward Iran. According to Hezbollah, some of those stances “do not serve Lebanon’s interest.”
The comments highlight ongoing divisions within Lebanon over relations with Tehran, a longstanding ally and supporter of Hezbollah. Those disagreements have become more pronounced as the Middle East faces an increasingly volatile security environment shaped by the confrontation between Iran and Israel.
Hezbollah concluded by returning focus to what it called Lebanon’s immediate priorities: securing an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, facilitating the return of displaced civilians, and rebuilding areas devastated by war.
“These issues remain at the core of national priorities,” Hezbollah said.
The statement reflects a broader reality facing Lebanon: even as attention shifts to the escalating Iran-Israel conflict, many of the consequences of last year’s fighting at home remain unresolved.
