The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has reiterated its uncompromising stance against examination malpractice, following the circulation of a viral video allegedly depicting impersonation during one of its professional examinations.
The footage, which surfaced online and quickly gained traction, reportedly showed suspected proxies caught impersonating registered candidates during the ICAN examination.
Among those featured was a man identified only as Kay, who was allegedly apprehended while sitting the exam on behalf of a bank manager.
The same video also captured a female proxy who claimed she was writing the test for a commissioner in Taraba State.
Reacting to the disturbing footage, ICAN issued a formal statement on Monday through its Registrar and Chief Executive, Lanre Olasunkanmi.
The Institute condemned the alleged misconduct and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the integrity of its examination processes.
“ICAN wishes to state unequivocally that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of examination malpractice, including impersonation,” Olasunkanmi declared.
ICAN launches investigation into alleged impersonation
Olasunkanmi confirmed that ICAN had initiated a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
He emphasised that the Institute’s examination procedures are built on globally recognised standards of integrity and that any attempt to undermine them would be met with stringent disciplinary action.
“In line with this commitment, ICAN has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter,” he stated.
“Appropriate disciplinary measures will be applied in accordance with established regulations, and the findings will be communicated transparently to stakeholders.”
In its statement, ICAN also called on the public to refrain from drawing premature conclusions based on unverified claims.
