Blessing Fubara, a governorship aspirant in Rivers State and cousin of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has said the people of Rivers State have suffered the most from the prolonged political crisis in the state.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Fubara said the duty of leaders is to create solutions and opportunities rather than deepen conflicts. He stressed that his focus is not on assigning blame but on finding ways to move the state forward and restore stability.
Using an analogy, he compared the situation to a house whose foundation has been declared faulty by the person who built it. According to him, while some may believe the foundation is flawed, Rivers people do not want to see either the entire structure or its foundation destroyed. Instead, they want a fresh approach that can provide a stronger basis for unity and development.
Fubara noted that the crisis has dragged on for too long and has shifted attention away from issues affecting ordinary residents. He said the people are more interested in progress and good governance than in continuous political disagreements.
Reflecting on his political background, he recalled being a member of the APC and supporting his cousin’s rise to office through various efforts. However, he declined to discuss the details of the dispute between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
He maintained that Rivers residents are weary of constant political battles and want leaders to focus on solving problems and improving their lives.
In his words, “So I don’t want to come.into all that has happened between him and his predecessor. But all we’re saying is Rivers people are tired with the constant political talks.”
