Hamas has released seven hostages into the custody of the Red Cross, marking the first set of captives freed under the newly signed ceasefire deal, according to an Associated Press report.

News of the handover sparked wild jubilation among families and friends of the captives, with Israeli television announcing that the hostages were now in the custody of the Red Cross.

Tens of thousands of Israelis gathered at public screening centres across the country, including a major event in Tel Aviv, where the transfer was broadcast live.
Under the truce arrangement, Hamas is expected to free 20 living hostages in exchange for the release of more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners currently being held by Israel.
The deal is being closely monitored internationally, with many seeing it as a critical test of the fragile ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, Hamas has declared that the ceasefire represents a permanent end to the Gaza war, citing assurances from the United States and regional mediators.
The head of the group’s negotiating team, Khalil al-Hayya, confirmed on Friday, October 10, 2025, that firm guarantees had been given.
“We have received assurances from the brotherly mediators and the US administration, who have confirmed that the war is completely over,” Al-Hayya stated.
His comments came just hours after both Hamas and Israel signed the first phase of a truce deal proposed by US President, Donald Trump.
