According to a report by DAILY POST on Tuesday 9th June 2026; Retired Major General John Enenche has dismissed suggestions that replacing Nigeria’s service chiefs would solve the country’s worsening security challenges, arguing that such a move would have little impact on the long-running fight against terrorism and banditry.
Enenche made the remarks while reacting to recent comments by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who urged President Bola Tinubu to compel security chiefs to either eliminate terrorists or resign from office.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, the former Defence Media Operations Coordinator said the nation’s security crisis requires consistency and commitment rather than frequent leadership changes within the armed forces.
According to him, replacing service chiefs every few months or every year would not address the underlying causes of insecurity; He stressed that security matters should not be politicized or treated lightly, noting that the country must remain focused on implementing effective measures to curb the menace.
Enenche warned that failure to confront the challenge decisively could allow insecurity to persist across successive governments; He maintained that Nigeria has the capacity to tackle terrorism and banditry but emphasized that the solution lies in sustained action, collaboration, and long-term planning rather than simply changing military commanders.
The retired general called for greater national resolve in addressing the crisis, insisting that all stakeholders must take responsibility to ensure lasting peace and security across the country.
