The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has raised alarm over the worsening health condition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and has appealed to South East Governors and National Assembly members from the region to urgently intervene.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, FENRAD expressed concern that despite court rulings granting Kanu bail, he remains in custody under the Department of State Services (DSS), with reports of deteriorating health and insufficient access to medical care.
The group stressed that the life and well-being of every Nigerian citizen—irrespective of political ideology—must be protected under the law. It warned that ignoring clear signs of medical neglect would amount to state failure.
