BREAKING: Atiku’s Ally, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, Resigns from PDP, Citing Conviction and Service to Constituents

Senator Ehigie Uzamere, who represented Edo South Senatorial District for eight years, and an ardent supporter of Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), ending years of association with the party on whose platform he first rose to national prominence.

In a resignation letter dated 7 October 2025, and addressed to Mr Osaigbovo Godspower, Chairman of Ward 12, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, Uzamere said his decision was driven by conviction and his “continued commitment to the service of the people,” rather than by animosity.

The letter, a copy of which was sent to Uptown Press via electronic mail, partly read:

“Politics, at its best, is a vehicle for service and representation — a means through which leaders express their commitment to the welfare of the people.

However, as the dynamics of the Nigerian political landscape continue to evolve, I find it necessary to seek a new platform that aligns more closely with my vision and desire to continue serving my people effectively.”

Reaffirming his long-held political philosophy of Aiguiyekampe — meaning (politics without bitterness) — Uzamere added that he remains grateful for the opportunities and experiences the PDP provided him during his time in the party.

Uzamere was first elected to the Senate in 2007 on the platform of the PDP and was re-elected in 2011 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which later merged into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
