Four Nigerian nationals have been arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly breaking into residential apartments in Baatsonaa, a suburb of Accra, and carting away several valuable items, including a piggy bank known locally as a susu box.
According to reports by GhanaWeb, the suspects — Moses Chinedu, Ugochukwu Onyeka, Obumneke Nnebuo, and Wisdom Ugochukwu — were brought before the court in early October on a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal, unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage, and stealing.

Court documents revealed that Onyeka and Ugochukwu are traders, Chinedu is a carpenter, while Nnebuo is currently unemployed. The group allegedly broke into the homes of Leslie Nii Fio Mensah, a self-employed man, and Abraham Kwaku Frimpong, a freight forwarder, both residents of the same apartment complex.
Among the items reportedly stolen were an HP laptop, a Samsung S6 Lite tablet, Samsung A32 and A33 phones, two JBL Bluetooth speakers, two JBL headsets, and a gold-coloured Rolex wristwatch. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at GH₵25,470, $2,200, and £2,500.
Prosecutor Sergeant Priscilla Avorgah told the court that the accused persons forcibly gained entry into the complainants’ apartments while they were away at work.
“They broke into the rooms and made away with the listed items. Their mission was to move from one house to another, targeting homes during working hours,”
Sgt Avorgah stated, adding that the complainants’ residence was the third house the suspects invaded that day.
The case has since drawn public attention in Ghana, with residents of the Baatsonaa area calling for tighter security measures following the spate of reported burglaries in the community.
