In a recent interview on Nevon HQ on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the opposition political circle, spoke about emerging political consultations and possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

During the discussion, Momodu addressed speculations surrounding political alignments within the opposition space, particularly involving key figures from the South-West and the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. He noted that ongoing engagements among political actors could influence future decisions as the election draws closer.

Speaking during the interview, Momodu stated, “Seyi Makinde may be forced to support Atiku because Atiku and he are talking regularly.”

According to him, political conversations among prominent stakeholders are part of normal democratic consultations aimed at building bridges and strengthening alliances ahead of major electoral contests. He suggested that sustained dialogue between influential politicians often plays a key role in shaping final endorsements and strategic alignments.

Momodu further explained that in Nigerian politics, relationships and continuous engagement between leaders can significantly impact decisions during election periods, especially when parties and individuals are weighing their options and negotiating influence across regions.

He added that the evolving political environment ahead of 2027 is already marked by strategic positioning, with various blocs exploring possible partnerships that could enhance their chances in the election. He maintained that such discussions should not be viewed as final decisions but as part of broader political calculations.

The NDC chieftain concluded by stressing that the 2027 general elections will likely witness shifting alliances and intensified negotiations among key political actors, as stakeholders continue to evaluate the most viable paths to electoral success across the country.
