Bandits Demand Protection: “If the Government Can’t Feed or Pay Us, It Should at Least Keep Us Safe” – Muhammadu

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Tukur Muhammadu, a resident of Fakku community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity threatening the lives and livelihoods of people in his community and neighbouring villages.

God bless Phoenix

He said the once peaceful environment has now turned into a place of fear as bandits continue to launch deadly attacks, forcing many residents to flee their homes.

Communities such as Fakku, Margai, Kurya, and Kuchi have been among the worst hit by the persistent assaults.

Residents say the attackers, often arriving in large numbers on motorcycles, invade at night and operate freely for hours without any resistance.

Many families have been displaced, with several villages now almost deserted due to the constant threat of violence.

According to residents, the latest series of attacks have resulted in the deaths of at least ten people and the abduction of more than thirty others.

Livestock theft has also become rampant, as over 500 animals were reportedly stolen in recent raids.

The loss of animals, which are the main source of livelihood for many villagers, has pushed several families into hardship and hunger.

Tukur Muhammadu said that before the crisis, the community lived in harmony and engaged mostly in farming and livestock rearing.

However, frequent attacks have disrupted farming activities, making it difficult for people to cultivate their lands or move freely in search of food and water.

He added that the fear of being attacked has driven many farmers away from their farmlands, leaving crops to wither.

Other residents from nearby settlements shared similar experiences, lamenting that they no longer sleep peacefully at night.

Many of them have sought refuge in safer areas within Sokoto and neighbouring states.

They appealed to the government to deploy more security personnel to protect the communities and restore peace to the area.

Community leaders have continued to call for urgent action, stressing that the insecurity in Kebbe Local Government is worsening by the day.

They warned that without timely intervention, more people would abandon their homes, worsening the humanitarian situation in the region.

They also urged for collaboration between the federal and state governments to strengthen security operations and provide relief for victims.

The affected communities remain hopeful that authorities will respond swiftly to their cries for help.

For many residents, the return of peace and security is the only way they can rebuild their lives and return to their normal way of living.

Until then, fear and uncertainty continue to define daily life in Kebbe Local Government Area.

He said: “If the government cannot give us money or food, the least we ask for is protection.
