Actress Laide Bakare Faces Backlash for Exposing Teenage Daughter to Nightlife and Alcohol

Nigerian actress Laide Bakare has come under intense public scrutiny after revealing in a recent interview that she introduced her 17-year-old daughter to nightlife and alcohol.

The disclosure has ignited debate over parenting standards and teenage exposure to adult activities in Nigeria.

Speaking to content creator Mr. Lilgaga, Bakare said the decision was intentional, noting that she wanted her daughter to acknowledge the experience in her future memoirs.

“I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17, and I like the fact that in her memoir, she would reference me as the person who introduced her to alcohol and clubbing,” she reportedly said.

The actress’ comments quickly drew reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning her approach to parenting.

• @it_hafizski wrote, “Introducing a 17-year-old to alcohol and nightlife is reckless parenting, not cruise. At that age, guidance and discipline should come first, not clubbing.”

• @iamnobleib commented, “Nah only single mother fit run this kind thing. What a good parenting.”

• @DonMike_X said, “First alcohol from a parent at 17… that’s parenting or probation prep?”

• @Shuluemp asked, “Which kind of mother takes pride in introducing her 17-year-old to alcohol and clubbing?”

Others defended Bakare, suggesting her approach might foster openness and trust with her daughter:

• @Sturbyrich65562 opined, “Low-key this thing normal, at least her daughter will be free to talk to her about anything. If she no carry her go club, she’ll still go by herself and might even do worse things.”

• @Brainpink212 wrote, “Make una leave her, that’s how she wants to train her girl. Overprotection sometimes pushes teens to experiment in secrecy. But sha, small small ooo.”

Bakare, known for her Nollywood roles and active social media presence, has not issued further clarification since the interview aired.

The controversy highlights broader questions about parental responsibility, legal drinking age, and societal norms regarding teenage exposure to adult environments.

Child rights advocates may weigh in on whether such disclosures have wider implications for youth welfare and public perceptions of responsible parenting.
