
The Former Chief of Army , Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, Service Chiefs , Inspector General of the Police , Governor of Adamawa, Umar Fintiri, and other head of securities agencies are to attend the 70th Anniversary Congress of the Historical Society of Nigeria, HSN.
The Acting President, HSN, Professor Zara Kwaghe who made this known in a press briefing, explained that the event which will be held in Abuja, will commence on Monday , 13th of October 2025 .
She stated that the lecture will be delivered by Professor Emeritus Baru Zwidi Wadehanna from Ethiopia, and the opening ceremony will be chaired by Professor Emeritus Ibrahim Gambari.

Prof Kwagye stated that the theme of the conference, “70 years of resilience, honoring Nigeria’s past, envisioning its future,” reflects on the society’s achievements and contributions to scholarship and nation-building.
She noted that the conference will feature a series of engaging plenary sessions covering thought-provoking topics that trigger meaningful discussions and insights.
The Acting President said that the sessions will address various aspects of Nigeria’s history, culture, and future, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of the society’s contributions.
According to her, the conference aims to bring together distinguished historians and scholars from across Africa to share their research insights and perspectives.
She added that the event is expected to be a significant milestone, highlighting the importance of historical scholarship and its impact on nation-building.
“Other eminent personalities expected are elder statesmen, General Yakubu Gowon, Lieutenant General TY buatai, the chairman of the Historical Society of Nigeria at 70 national coordination, coordinating council, service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police and other heads of security agencies, his Excellency, governor of Adamawa state, right honorable, umaru finturi, ambassadors, Royal fathers, members of the association of African historians and many more,” she said .
Speaking on the legacy of the HSN, she emphasized that the conference’s role in reflecting on the society’s achievements and contributions to scholarship and nation-building over the past 70 years.
She stressed that the society has played a crucial role in preserving and promoting Nigeria’s rich history and cultural heritage.
She added that the conference will discuss the society’s impact on academic research and its contributions to the academic world.
The Acting President revealed that the society has been instrumental in advocating for the inclusion of history in the school curriculum, which has been successfully achieved.
