A faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned what it described as a “campaign of calumny” launched by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, against David Umahi, minister of works.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, deputy president-general, and Chinyereze Thompson Ohia, national spokesman, the group accused the governor of instigating a media campaign against Umahi.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo unequivocally condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent scurrilous campaign of calumny launched by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde against the esteemed political leader of Southeast Nigeria, Senator David Umahi,” the statement read.

The group alleged that Makinde was “sponsoring journalists and television anchors” to attack Umahi and the federal government’s infrastructure projects.
“Our suspicions have been further reinforced by the disturbing patterns of conspiracies and clandestine strategies being enacted by opposition leaders led by Governor Makinde, who seek to leverage the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to discredit the transformative projects of President Tinubu,” it added.
The organisation demanded that Makinde retract his remarks and tender a formal apology to both Tinubu and Umahi.
