President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly considering a replacement for the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, amid concerns over Edun’s deteriorating health.
Edun, who has played a pivotal role in the administration’s economic management team since his appointment in August 2023, is said to be battling an undisclosed medical condition that has persisted for several weeks.
According to sources within the Presidency, the minister is expected to be flown abroad for advanced medical treatment following his doctors’ advice for immediate care.

Government insiders disclosed that Edun’s impending medical leave has triggered high-level consultations on a temporary or potential long-term replacement to ensure the continuity of economic policy implementation during his absence.
“The President holds Edun in very high esteem. His health challenge is indeed unfortunate, but governance must continue. The priority now is his full recovery,”a senior government official told Ebinaija.
