BREAKING: Umahi, Rufai Clash Over Cost of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has engaged in heated argument with popular Arise TV Presenter, Oseni Rufai, over the cost of the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway construction project.

Umahi had in a live programme shunned the journalist who demanded to know the cost per kilometre of the highway.

As captured in a clip shared on X on Tuesday, the argument began after Rufai accused Umahi of reporting him to President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister of Works had in reaction labelled the journalist as too small for him to report to the President.

“You’re too small for me to report you to the President. Who are you? Who are you for me to report you?” The visibly enraged former Ebonyi state governor asked.

Rufai however claimed to have evidence of the Minister him to the President while insisting on his demand for the cost of the highway per kilometre.

“Minister let me speak. I have empirical evidence. The world watched it on the commissioning of the project where you mentioned the questions I asked you to the President. That was reporting me to the President officially.

“I don’t talk without facts. When I have my facts, I talk.” the Arise TV presenter replied as Umahi interrupted him, stressing that the journalist has no idea of what he is demanding.

“I don’t have your time because you don’t know what you are speaking. I don’t know what your profession is.” Umahi said.

Rufai however reiterated his demand to the Minister’s answer to his question.

“My question still persists as regards the cost per kilometre. You cannot tell me that we don’t have the right not to know the cost per kilometre. Even if it is an undulating landscape, give us all the facts of the cost per kilometre.” He asked before Umahi cuts in, labelling the question as nonsensical.

“I won’t keep quiet for you to damage information. Listen to me. I was in your studio and when the first session was on, I ran the figures.

“What you are asking us is 750 kilometres of coastal highway. We should tell you cost per kilometre so you multiply by 750. That is nonsensical because you don’t understand anything. I’m a professor in this field.”

“I’m a professor in practice and I understand engineering very well. You have no knowledge in what you are asking. So, you keep quiet.” He quipped.

Rufai however furhter asked for the cost per kilometre of the additional 100 kilometres added to the project.

He also demanded how the over N700 billion first tranche of loan received for the project was spent and the terms of the loan.

Umahi however failed to reply as he claimed not to hear the questions.
