Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday held a high-level closed-door meeting in Abuja, chaired by former Senate President and National Chairman of the party, David Mark.
Among those present were Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, ADC National Secretary and former Minister of Interior; Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation; and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, former Governor of Edo State, alongside other senior members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
In his opening remarks before the meeting went into a closed-door session, Mark said the ADC was committed to reshaping Nigeria’s political culture by prioritizing national progress over personal ambition.

“We are not seeking power for its own sake but to build a lasting legacy,” Mark declared. “We are in a marathon; we must compete and win. Failure is not an option.”
He described the ADC as a people-oriented, pan-African movement focused on addressing social challenges and promoting inclusivity for persons with disabilities, retirees, and vulnerable citizens.
“The conveners of this mission are respected leaders from every corner of our nation who have freely chosen service over comfort,” he said. “The road will be uphill; sacrifice will be demanded. Those threatened by democracy will resist it. Still, we advance — calmly, courageously, together as a formidable team.”
Mark also emphasized that the ADC’s leadership model rests on four key pillars — character, competence, courage, and discipline — which he described as “non-negotiable values” for anyone seeking to represent the party.
The meeting, which was the inaugural session of the NWC under Mark’s leadership, is seen as part of broader preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
