Police operatives from the Byazhin Division, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and local vigilantes were immediately mobilised to the scene.
A search and rescue operation was launched, and on Thursday morning, Ogbu’s lifeless body was found near the area of the abduction.
The incident has since sent shockwaves through his community and the wider veterinary and humanitarian circles in which he was deeply involved.
Until his death, Dr Ogbu, a native of Nru Nsukka, Enugu State was a staff of The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and known for his advocacy work within the veterinary profession.
He ran the Dr Ifeanyi Ogbu Foundation, which supported underprivileged children and orphans, particularly those seeking access to education or vocational training.
He had also recently appealed to the Federal Government for the creation of a Federal Ministry of Veterinary Medicine, emphasising its importance to national health and the economy.
This incident adds to the recent wave of violent crimes across Abuja and its satellite towns.
Just days earlier, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a presenter with ARISE News, died during a robbery attack at her apartment in Katampe, Abuja.
She reportedly fell to her death while trying to escape the robbers by jumping from her third-floor balcony. Her neighbours say the incident is part of a string of robberies affecting the area.
Residents are calling on the government and security agencies to take immediate and decisive action as insecurity continues to spread within Nigeria’s capital city.
