A renowned veterinary doctor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, has been shot dead by gunmen in Abuja, with his three children abducted in the attack.
Dr. Ogbu, who hailed from Iheagu, Nru in Nsukka, Enugu State, was killed after armed men stormed his residence in Kubwa, Abuja, late Friday.
According to sources, the attackers took him and his three children away, sparing only his wife who is nursing a baby.
“Only the wife who is nursing a baby was spared. They took Dr. Ogbu and his children, but shot him dead and left his body by the roadside. Nobody knows what transpired. We don’t know whether it is a case of assassination or kidnapping,” one source said.

Confirming the tragic development, a colleague, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, wrote on Facebook:
“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja, was found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene.”
His death has sparked outrage and grief within the veterinary community. A female colleague, in a post titled‘A Great Loss’, described Ogbu as a patriotic Nigerian and a committed professional.
“Nigeria just happened to my age-long friend, Ifeanyi. This heartbreaking incident has left the entire veterinary community in shock and mourning. Dr. Ogbu, who happened to be the immediate past chairman (FCT Chapter), was not only a dedicated veterinarian but also a loving father and a valued member of our profession. His untimely death is a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to affect families and communities in Nigeria,” she wrote.
Tributes have continued to pour in on social media, with many describing him as vibrant, compassionate, and dedicated to humanity. Others condemned the murder as “one too many,” calling on the authorities to urgently tackle violent crimes.
As at press time, the police had yet to issue an official statement or provide updates on the whereabouts of the abducted children.
The killing comes just days after Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was murdered in Abuja, further fueling concerns about worsening insecurity in the nation’s capital.
