Woman Mistakes Labor for Appendicitis, Discovers She’s Pregnant After Giving Birth to Baby Boy

A woman who thought she had appendicitis was left stunned after leaving the hospital with a newborn baby instead.

The woman, identified as Isherwood, had been rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe abdominal pain. Doctors initially feared she might need emergency surgery for appendicitis.

However, when medics carried out a scan, they were shocked to discover not an inflamed appendix—but a tiny head and little feet. To everyone’s surprise, Isherwood was pregnant and already in labor.

Even more astonishing, she had taken a pregnancy test just days earlier which came back negative.

Speaking about the life-changing moment, the new mom said: “I was speechless — I couldn’t believe what had just happened.

“I had no bump, no symptoms at all, he just came out of nowhere.

“I wouldn’t change anything for it other than I wish Jaxson had let me know that he was around before he was born.

“He is a miracle.”

She also revealed that on the day she gave birth, she woke up feeling unwell and asked her friend, Gabbie Rose, to bring her a bottle of Coke because she thought her sugar level was low.

She added: “When Gabbie arrived, she told me I looked terrible as I was hunched over and that I needed to go to the hospital.

“I have a high pain threshold, so she knew I had something wrong with me.”

Gabbie then called the 111 ambulance line, and paramedics arrived about an hour later. Based on her symptoms—pain on the right side of her body, a high heart rate, and nausea—they initially suspected appendicitis.

She was rushed to Blackburn Hospital at around 5:30 p.m., where she was immediately taken to the intensive care unit. Inside, she was surrounded by about 15 doctors, all working to figure out what was wrong with her.

She said: “They decided to do a CT scan as well as an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy but that was when they found a head and a foot.

“They then blue-lighted me to Burnley hospital as they have a midwifery.

“On the way there the paramedic said to me if I need to push just let them know and push hard.

“As soon as she said that, it was like something clicked and I just needed to push.

“The next thing you know they told me ‘congratulations it is a boy’.

“I was so shocked and flustered, I couldn’t believe what had just happened.”

Although she gave birth to her son, Jaxson, at just 33 weeks, moments after his arrival his heart turned blue and he stopped breathing. Paramedics managed to revive him before they reached the hospital, where he was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Meanwhile, Isherwood was rushed to the birth suite and later moved to her own room in the postnatal ward.

On September 25th, both mother and baby were discharged from the hospital.

She said: “It still didn’t feel real.

“I struggled to get my head around what had happened — I was thinking to myself where have you come from.”

“He didn’t make himself known before he was born but he definitely did after almost dying twice.

“He is such a brave boy.”

She revealed that she believes the baby’s father is a man she is not in a relationship with. She also shared that the community has been very supportive since learning about her unexpected childbirth.

She added: “The community came together and helped me out with supplies for Jaxson which was very kind.

“We have everything we need now.

“Jaxson is doing absolutely amazing.

“When I told my family they couldn’t believe it — and neither still can I.”
