Tragedy in Lagos: Young Man Fatally Shot Over Club Bill Dispute

Eyewitnesses say trouble began when the unnamed club patron declined to settle a N52,000 bill and attempted to leave without paying. A club bouncer tried stopping him, and in the ensuing confrontation, the victim—identified as Kehinde Adesanwo—stepped in to mediate between the two. That’s when gunfire erupted. One of the men pulled out a gun and shot Adesanwo in the stomach. He died instantly at the scene.

Responding to the scene, officers from the Onipanu Police Station collected spent cartridges, secured evidence, and removed the body to Yaba Military Hospital. The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the shooting and assured that the suspect is being pursued.

Investigators are now examining CCTV footage and interviewing club staff and patrons to piece together the events that led to the killing. The fact that the victim was trying to calm the situation has sparked debate on safety protocols in nightlife venues.

Local advocacy and security groups are calling on club owners and Lagos authorities to boost security measures — including banning firearms inside venues and conducting stricter patron checks. Many fear that such tragedies could become more frequent unless urgent steps are taken to regulate nightlife safety.

For now, a grieving family mourns Adesanwo, while Lagos residents and night-goers anxiously await justice. The police promise that the investigation is ongoing and that those responsible will be held to account.
