Okonkwo to Obi: Other Leaders Draw Dignitaries, You Draw Street Urchins

Former spokesperson to Peter Obi and political analyst, Kenneth Okonkwo, has launched a scathing attack on the Labour Party (LP) and some of its key promoters, accusing them of spreading lies and fabrications in a bid to discredit him.

In an interview with SYMFONI TV on Thursday, October 2nd 2025, Okonkwo dismissed recent claims made by political commentator Dr. Katch Ononuju that he lobbied for the position of National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party after leaving Obi’s campaign. Okonkwo described the allegations as baseless, stressing that he never sought any office from Obi or the party.

He alleged that Ononuju was fabricating falsehoods while playing double roles across political parties. “This is a man who claims to be in the PDP, aligns with APC, and yet says he worked for Peter Obi in the Labour Party. How can such a person be taken seriously?” Okonkwo questioned.

The Nollywood actor-turned-politician argued that it was illogical for anyone who had served as a presidential spokesperson to downgrade themselves by lobbying for a party secretary position. He insisted that his exit from the Labour Party had nothing to do with office-seeking but was rather informed by what he described as “anarchy” within the party’s leadership structure.

But his sharpest criticism was directed at Obi’s camp and the type of supporters the movement has continued to attract. According to Okonkwo, while great leaders draw refined and respected individuals, Obi’s movement has been infiltrated by “street urchins” who thrive on falsehood and abuse.

“While other leaders are attracting distinguished people, you are attracting street urchins — ill-bred, ill-mannered, rabies-infested dogs. These are the kind of followers that Peter Obi is attracting now,” he declared.
