The Executive Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, is consolidating the Labour Party base in Abia State and recently hosted an event that witnessed mass defection from other parties to the Labour Party.
The mass defection event held at Isieketa, Isialangwa South, saw opposition politicians and grassroots supporters defect to the Labour Party, an indicator of growing confidence in the party following Alex Otti’s performance.
Key defectors into the Labour Party include Dr. Gershon Amuta, a leading figure of the PDP in Isialangwa South, and Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa. Otti described the event as an acceptance party for long-time collaborators and partners in progress, and not just a mere defection event.

Otti directed local government chairmen to make the new defectors feel at home and reiterated that every member of the Labour Party is equal, regardless of when they joined the party.
Notable political leaders at the event included Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusigwe, and Hon. Dennis Chinwendu Rowland. The Abia state political icons hailed the level of the new decampees as an indicator of the growing appeal of Governor Otti’s leadership and development-oriented agenda.
They stressed that with the ongoing momentum, Governor Otti’s reelection in 2027 is well assured. The new Labour Party members echoed these sentiments, stating that Otti’s performance as governor attracted them to the party.
