Sultan Criticizes Claims of Killings, Says Accuser Doesn’t Even Know Where Sokoto Is

In a video posted on Channels TV from 7:09, the Sultan of Sokoto addressed concerns about external narratives regarding religious relations in Nigeria.

The Sultan emphasized the harmonious coexistence among Nigerians, stating: “All of us are looking happy because we are here as brothers and sisters, speaking with you in partnership, in friendship, showing love, and whatever—we don’t have problems with one another.”

He expressed frustration over foreign interference and misinformation about the situation in Nigeria. “Why do we allow somebody far away, who doesn’t even know where Sokoto is on the map, to say that people are being killed? He doesn’t know where we are,” the Sultan questioned.

The traditional ruler also criticized the platform given to such external commentators and the reception they receive. “There’s a television station, and then they make comments, and then people are clapping for him,” he observed.

The Sultan’s remarks appear to be a response to international media coverage or foreign officials making claims about religious violence in northern Nigeria, which he suggests are made without proper understanding of the local context and realities on the ground.
