Moniepoint Names Victor Osimhen as Brand Ambassador, Launches Monieball 5-a-Side Football Tournament

Nigerian international Victor Osimhen has joined the Moniepoint family as a brand ambassador, as the company continues with its new “Made for Your Progress” campaign.

The leading financial institution emphasised its commitment to supporting individuals and businesses in Nigeria and opted to sign the Super Eagles striker.

Victor Osimhen’s journey from humble beginnings to football stardom is a true ‘grass-to-grace’ story, having grown up in the slums of Lagos.

The 2023 CAF Player of the Year earlier recounted selling water and bread in traffic around the Olusosun area of Ojota.

It comes at a time when the company unveiled the maiden edition of Monieball football 5-A-Side for universities in Nigeria.

The football competition will see no fewer than eight tertiary institutions clash for silverware, marking Moniepoint’s contribution to the development of sports in Nigeria.

The participating teams include University of Ilorin, University of Uyo, Abia State University, University of Calabar, Adekunle Ajasin University, University of Ibadan, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Federal University and Federal University Oye Ekiti.

It adopts a two-group format, as the top two teams in each group will then proceed to the knockout phase of the competition.

Speaking ahead of the Monieball 5-A-Side Competition scheduled to start at Unilorin on October 8, the director of content, Obinna Okerekeocha, told Legit.ng:

“We hope to have a very good outing. Moniepoint is focused on excellence and also focused on continuity.
“For us, everything is data-driven. We have just launched a new campaign themed ‘Made for Your Progress’.
“In grassroots football, what we’ve done is to get all critical stakeholders involved in a room and have a conversation and say ‘we want to partner with you to make this happen.”
“Yes, we are a big brand, but we need you to make this a reality, and I think that the success of doing anything at the grassroots level is actually around collaboration, carrying people along.

The head of brand, Anastacia Igbokidi, added via Thisday:

“We want to take football as our key platform, and so we’re starting out. We started with the partnership with Victor Osimhen because he inspires a lot of young Nigerians.
“He inspires with his story and we hope to inspire more Victor Osimhens in these institutions.”
